Pistachios in Shell Roasted & Salted, Organic (372)
Pistachios in Shell Roasted & Salted, Organic (372)
Our organic pistachios are organically and sustainably grown in sunny California, the perfect place to grow the best tasting pistachios in the world. Pistachios have an unmistakable flavor and are packed with nutrients, making them a super choice for snacking or adding a bit of flair to your favorite dishes. Ours are crunchy, fresh-tasting, and chock-full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein.
Pistachio trees, which are members of the cashew family, can grow in areas many other crops cannot, since they are highly tolerant of saline soil. A pistachio tree can live up to 300 years, and each tree can produce over 100 pounds of pistachios every two years! When ripe, the hard shell splits open to reveal the seed’s blush-colored skin and light green flesh—a delicious, nutty snack. Our crunchy, organic pistachios are a rich source of protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins B1 (thiamine) and B6. Try using them for pistachio butter, gelato, biscotti, and other desserts, or add them to salads, rice, and pasta dishes. You can even grind them for sauces, whipped cream, and spreads.
Pistachios have been used as a great source of energy for thousands of years. These small trees were brought from Asia to Europe by the Romans back in the first century AD. It is believed that pistachio trees were so highly valued that they were included in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World! Today, almost 40% of the world’s supply is grown in the USA.

Pistachios have an excellent shelf life and may be stored at length without spoilage under proper circumstances. Temperatures of 32-40 degrees F should be maintained with a relative humidity of 70% for roasted pistachios. Roasted and salted pistachios should not be stored in open containers for more than a few days as they will eventually absorb moisture from the air and become soggy. Pistachios stored in bulk containers should be frequently rotated for optimum freshness. In the event that they do become soggy, toasting the pistachios for 15-20 minutes at low heat (approximately 200 degrees) will renew them.
